SPECIAL RITUALS  AND NOTES ON TANTRIC SEX

THE TANTRA AND AGE

That the mind is supple, not the body.”
That is Tantric text’s way of saying, “Age is not important.”
It does not matter at what  age the student   begins studying  the Tantra, only that the mind be receptive  to the Tantric concepts , open and willing to believe and try.  Tantric groups often begin teaching the Alone Rituals to their children at about age twelve.  Such instruction is intended to condition the adolescent to a Tantric approach to sex; an open, honest, uninhibited approach.  There are no taboos. There is only free communication  and instruction regarding knowledge of one’s body and sexuality.  It is a form of instruction that, according to Tantric texts, leads to greater self-confidence and freedom from many of the “problems of sex” which create adolescent tensions and frustrations.

In one of the texts there is the story of a Tantric man of eighty-six years, who nightly entered into the joys of Tantric lovemaking with his “older wife,” who had taught him many years before.
The story continues that the wife died at age eighty-nine, and the Male Tantric took unto himself a younger  wife, not a Tantric whose age was sixty-three and he taught her the ways of the Tantra and she was reborn sensually and sexually  and in all areas of her  living.
And when the older Male Tantric  died at ninety-one, his “younger wife”  took  herself a lover aged forty, and taught him the ways of the Tantra, and their  bliss lasted through all the years they were together.
It is likely not a literally true story, but it  brings across two points relative to the Tantra:
Age is not a factor in learning.
Age is  not a fact in enjoying the pleasures of the Tantra.
My own  research into tantra included  interviews with a fairly large  number of Tantric.  The youngest  among them was nineteen. The oldest was seventy-eight. And they ran the gamut of ages in between.
Each said, in so many words, that age was not important, but  that maintaining an open mind, and practicing the Tantric  rituals, were absolutely essential.
Man and woman, says the Tantra, too often allow their lives to become embroiled in the small but urgent (and emotionally and physically draining) matters of each day.  They soon begin to place more emphasis  on the world about them than the world within them.
And in doing this, they push  deep inside all the beauty within themselves that is there for the knowing; and they allow their inner power to slip away.
The flow of sexual energy, says the Tantra, is the flow of life, and life, and life creating energy.  Stymied, it ceases to flow and is locked inside.
But, if allowed to flow freely, its forces will multiply and the creative energies will become the power to create.
To Control the flow of sexual energy is not to block it; rather, the Control allows  us to direct and channel the energy; to lives to their fullest, enjoying each day by enjoying the powers  within us; using the powers within to give and receive pleasure with another and with the world.
Not only is age not a factor in Tantric living and loving but the Tantra itself is one of the keys to a long life.
